Reign

4-8 weeks for typical 1k-10k member group

Migrate from Facebook Group to Reign.

Why people migrate

Facebook Groups lose data + reach to algorithm changes constantly. Migrating gives you owned URL, email list, and member discovery.

What you keep + what you rebuild

Set expectations before you start.

Migrates cleanly

  • Member emails (require members to opt-in via CSV signup form).
  • Member display names (manual or CSV).
  • Pinned content (manual copy).

Requires rebuild

  • Post archive (FB does not export legibly; budget for manual copy of top posts).
  • Subscriber relationship (Facebook hid emails; members must opt-in).
  • Group culture (announce + onboard new platform deliberately).

6 steps

The migration walkthrough.

1

Set up Reign on a domain

BuddyPress Community Bundle for pure community migration.

2

Announce migration in FB group

Pin a post: "We are moving to yourbrand.com because Facebook keeps changing the algorithm. Signup here." Link to a Mailchimp form.

3

Collect emails via opt-in

Mailchimp signup form. Optional incentive: free 30-day premium tier for early signups.

4

Run dual-platform for 60 days

Post in both. Show members the new platform is better (search, no algorithm, replies threaded).

5

Migrate top content manually

Top 20-50 most-engaged FB posts: copy + post on Reign blog. Set up redirect from FB to Reign equivalents.

6

Phase out FB activity

Reduce FB posting frequency. Final post announces full migration + FB group becomes archive.

FAQ

Migration questions.

Will I lose all FB group members?

You will lose anyone who does not opt-in. Typical conversion: 10-30% of FB members move to new platform within 90 days. Communicate value clearly.

Can I export FB group data?

No - Facebook explicitly blocks member email export. You must collect opt-ins on the FB side and migrate via signup form on yourbrand.com.
