6-12 weeks for typical 5k-50k member server
Migrate from Discord to Reign.
Discord migrations happen when communities need SEO-indexable content, paid membership tiers, or content discoverable beyond the platform.
Reign is the design layer at $99/year or $249 lifetime, and it is the only thing you have to buy. The plugins that rebuild your community here are ours: BuddyNext for members and groups, Learnomy for courses, Jetonomy for forums and Q&A, MediaVerse for member media. 11 of them install free, each with its own Pro plan for when one part of the community starts earning. No monthly platform fee replaces the one you are leaving.
Set expectations before you start.
- Member roles + usernames (Discord export bots).
- Channel/thread structure (manual mapping).
- Real-time chat (keep Discord for chat, or a WordPress chat plugin).
- Voice channels (Reign does not have native voice - use Discord or Whereby integration).
- Bot ecosystem (most Discord bots do not have WordPress equivalents).
- Paid memberships (set up MemberPress fresh).
The migration walkthrough.
Decide on hybrid or full migration
Most Discord communities keep Discord for chat + use Reign for content, courses, member directory, monetization. Pure migration is rare.
Set up Reign with content focus
BuddyNext for profiles and feeds plus Jetonomy for threaded discussion and Q&A, both free to install. BuddyPress + bbPress on that stack. MemberPress for paid tiers.
SSO Discord + Reign
DiscordPress plugin: members sign in once, identity bridges both platforms.
Migrate paid tiers to Reign
Move Patreon / Discord Server Boost benefits to MemberPress tiers on Reign. Stripe billing.
Announce hybrid model
Discord for daily chat. Reign for content + courses + payments. Members keep both, but billing + member directory live on Reign.
Before you start.
Work out what is actually worth taking, because a Discord server is mostly conversation and very little of it is worth carrying. Scroll back through your busiest channels and list the threads people keep linking to: the FAQ answers, the setup guides, the decisions. That list is your migration. Everything else stays where it is and eventually scrolls away, which is fine. Announce the plan in the server before you build anything, so the move is something the community watched happen rather than something sprung on them.
What to check once it is live.
Check that a member who is not you can register, post and reply without hitting a permission wall, using a second account rather than trusting the settings screen. Confirm the pages you moved are indexable and appearing in your sitemap, since search visibility is the main reason to do this at all. Then watch which channels stay busy on Discord: those are the ones that genuinely belong there, and trying to move them later will fail the same way.
Where this one usually goes wrong.
Closing the Discord too early. The site will be quiet for the first month because communities take time to move, and a founder who shuts the server in week two to force the issue usually ends up with neither. Run both for a season, put the durable material on the site, and let the Discord go quiet on its own rather than killing it on a schedule.
Migration questions.
Should I shut down Discord?
Usually no - Discord still wins on real-time chat + voice. Run hybrid: Discord for chat, Reign for content + monetization.
Can I import Discord chat history?
No - Discord does not export public chat. Run dual-platform; new conversations live on Reign for SEO; old Discord history stays archived on Discord.
Can I import Discord messages automatically?
No. Discord has no export that maps onto a forum or a site, so anything you keep is moved by hand. In practice that is a filter rather than a limitation: almost nothing in a chat server is worth carrying, and choosing the twenty threads that are makes the new site better than a bulk import would.
Will members need new accounts?
Yes, they register on your site. There is no way around this when moving between platforms, so make it worth doing: have the material waiting, keep registration to two fields, and offer social login so it is one click for most people.
