Migrate from Mighty Networks to Reign.
Most Mighty customers migrate to cut the ongoing $33-$179/month cost, own the URL + email list, and integrate with their existing WordPress stack.
Reign is the design layer at $99/year or $249 lifetime, and it is the only thing you have to buy. Set expectations before you start.
- Member list + email addresses (CSV export from Mighty admin).
- Member profile basics (name, bio, avatar URL).
- Public post archive (manual copy or scrape).
- Subscription billing (set up Stripe + MemberPress fresh).
- Course content (manual recreate in Learnomy, which installs free, or in LearnDash / LifterLMS / Tutor LMS).
- Group structure (recreate BuddyNext groups matching old Mighty spaces).
- Welcome email sequence (rebuild in FluentCRM / Mailchimp).
The migration walkthrough.
Export member CSV from Mighty
Mighty admin > Members > Export. Gives email + name + signup date.
Set up Reign + the plugins on staging
Buy the theme, then install BuddyNext for the community and Learnomy for the courses. Both are free. On a third-party stack instead, the BuddyPress Community Bundle and the LearnMate kits are the packaged routes.
Recreate group/space structure
For each Mighty space, create a matching BuddyNext group with the same name and description.
Migrate billing to Stripe
Set up MemberPress with matching membership tiers. Use Stripe Customer Migration if you stay on Stripe.
Run dual-platform for 2 weeks
Announce migration. Existing members get invitation to set password on new site. Mighty stays live as fallback.
Cutover + DNS switch
Day of cutover: members migrate access. Mighty becomes read-only archive. Cancel Mighty after 30-day grace.
Before you start.
Get the member export first and confirm what format courses come out in, because Mighty's export is not built to populate another platform and the answer changes your timeline. Rebuild your most important course before announcing anything. Decide too whether you are carrying student progress, because the honest answer is usually no and it is much easier to say that up front than to promise it and fail.
What to check once it is live.
Check the course as a student, confirm enrolment and progress behave, and verify payments with a real transaction. Look at the community feed and make sure it does not look abandoned: seed it with content before members arrive. Then confirm your email is reaching people, since a migration announcement in a spam folder is how members get lost.
Where this one usually goes wrong.
Moving mid-programme. Members partway through a course who are asked to change platform, reset a password and find their progress gone will churn, and they will be right to. Time the move to a natural break: a new cohort, a course launch, the start of a term. The same migration at the right moment is barely noticed.
Migration questions.
Can I keep my Stripe customers?
Yes. Use Stripe Customer Migration tool to move customers between Stripe accounts. Or if same account, just point MemberPress at existing Stripe.
What happens to course progress in Mighty?
Mighty does not export course progress as data. Members rejoin courses fresh in Learnomy, or in LearnDash if that is your LMS. Communicate this clearly before migration.
How do I avoid losing members?
Send the migration announcement 30 days in advance. Offer a small migration discount ($10 off or 1 month free). Make password reset 1-click on first login.
Will my members keep their profiles?
Profile data can be imported from the member export, but they set a new password and rebuild anything Mighty held that your export does not include. Tell them what to expect in the announcement rather than letting them discover it at the login screen.
Can I run both during the transition?
Yes, and you should. Keep Mighty live while the new site fills up, point new signups at the new one, and move existing members with a reason rather than an instruction. Closing early is the most common way these moves go badly.
