Reign + FluentCRM. Email integration.

FluentCRM is a self-hosted email marketing + CRM plugin that runs entirely inside WordPress.

Reign + FluentCRM gives you Mailchimp-equivalent email automation without per-subscriber fees. Native BuddyPress + LearnDash + WooCommerce triggers built in.

How it works with Reign.

Reign ships no plugin-specific styles for FluentCRM, and does not need to: its interface lives in wp-admin and its only frontend output is forms and preference pages, which inherit the theme. There is no override layer to maintain and nothing to break when either side updates. Because FluentCRM runs inside WordPress, it can see your members directly, which is the practical difference from a hosted platform. Signup forms and subscriber preference pages pick up Reign's input and button styles without configuration.

When to use it.

Use FluentCRM when the people you email are the people on your site. Running the CRM inside WordPress means you can segment by membership tier, course progress or community activity without building an integration, and the cost does not scale with list size the way a hosted platform does. Choose a hosted tool instead if deliverability management is something you would rather outsource.

4 steps to ship.

1

Install FluentCRM (free) + FluentCRM Pro ($129/yr).

2

Connect SMTP via Amazon SES, SendGrid, or Mailgun.

3

Import existing list or sync from BuddyPress.

4

Build automation: signup → welcome → day 7 follow-up → day 30 re-engagement.

What to check once it is live.

Send a test campaign to yourself and check it arrives in the inbox rather than spam, which is the whole ballgame with self-hosted sending. Confirm your sending service is connected properly, verify SPF and DKIM, and test that a new member is tagged as expected before you rely on any automation.

FluentCRM integration questions.

SMTP for transactional email?

FluentCRM uses your WordPress SMTP. Amazon SES is cheapest ($0.10 per 1k emails). SendGrid + Mailgun are simpler to set up.

Can it replace Mailchimp at scale?

Yes - many Reign sites with 10k+ subscribers run FluentCRM exclusively. Cost difference vs Mailchimp at that scale is $300+/mo.

Why run a CRM inside WordPress?

Because your member data is already there. Segmenting by membership level, course completion or forum activity is a database query rather than a sync, and there is no delay or field-mapping between systems. That is the whole argument, and it only matters if your audience and your members are the same people.

Does it handle sending?

It manages the sending through a service you connect, such as Amazon SES or a similar provider, rather than sending from your server directly. Set that up properly at the start, because deliverability problems are far harder to diagnose after you have sent to a real list.

Does running a CRM in WordPress slow the site?

It adds what any plugin adds, and the honest way to find out is to measure your own site rather than trust a general claim. FluentCRM does its work in the admin and in background jobs, so visitors are largely unaffected, though large sends want a real sending service and adequate hosting. On a community site the heavy pages are almost always the dynamic ones, profiles, feeds and directories, so that is where to look first if the site feels slow.

Pick a bundled kit.

The Reign theme is $99/year or $249 lifetime and it is the only required purchase. Kits bundle it with the add-ons that style a third-party stack.
