Reign + ActiveCampaign. Email integration.

ActiveCampaign is the most-deployed mid-market email + CRM platform. Strong automation flows.

Reign plus ActiveCampaign is for communities running real marketing automation: branching sequences, lead scoring and pipelines that react to what members do. Paired with WP Fusion it can see membership levels and course progress, so the automation acts on genuine behaviour rather than on a list someone exported last month.

How it works with Reign.

Reign ships no plugin-specific styles for ActiveCampaign, and does not need to: it is a hosted automation platform, so the only thing on your site is a signup form. There is no override layer to maintain and nothing to break when either side updates. Forms rendered by a connecting plugin inherit Reign's input and button styling. ActiveCampaign's own embeds carry some of their own look, so use a plugin-rendered form where an exact match matters.

When to use it.

Use ActiveCampaign when the automation is the point: branching sequences, lead scoring and sales-style pipelines it handles better than anything else here. That is more machinery than most community sites need. If you mainly want to email members based on what they do on the site, FluentCRM does that without a sync.

4 steps to ship.

1

Install ActiveCampaign official plugin or WP Fusion ($247/yr).

2

Map BuddyPress / MemberPress events to AC tags.

3

Build automation flows in ActiveCampaign.

4

Optional: lead scoring on community engagement.

What to check once it is live.

Subscribe and confirm the contact lands with the right tags and enters the right automation, then walk one automation through to the end rather than assuming it completes. If you sync membership data, change a membership level on a test account and confirm the CRM actually reflects it.

ActiveCampaign integration questions.

WP Fusion vs native plugin?

WP Fusion handles complex 2-way sync + deep WordPress event mapping. The native plugin is simpler but less flexible. Use WP Fusion for kits past 5k members.

Is this overkill for a community?

Often, yes. ActiveCampaign is built for automation-heavy marketing and sales, and a community that wants a weekly digest and a welcome sequence is not using most of it. Worth the money when you genuinely run branching automations, hard to justify when you do not.

Can it see my membership data?

Only through a sync, typically via a connector such as WP Fusion. That works well but it is a moving part, and it lags. A CRM running inside WordPress reads the same database as your membership plugin, which removes the question entirely.

Do I need this and a membership plugin?

They do different jobs. The membership plugin decides who gets access; ActiveCampaign decides who gets emailed and when. They only overlap if you try to run membership logic from the CRM, which is a common and painful mistake. Keep access in WordPress and marketing in the CRM.

Pick a bundled kit.

The Reign theme is $99/year or $249 lifetime and it is the only required purchase. Kits bundle it with the add-ons that style a third-party stack.
