Community engines

Reign + PeepSo. Community engines integration.

PeepSo is an alternative social-network engine for WordPress. Different architecture than BuddyPress.

Reign + PeepSo is the only major theme that natively styles PeepSo. Core, Groups, Photos, Videos, Chat all get dedicated templates.

The free alternative from us

BuddyNext does the same job in-house and installs free: Member profiles, activity feed, groups, messages, notifications. On the paid plan: advanced moderation, deeper analytics, and priority support. Reign styles it with no add-on, and PeepSo stays fully supported either way.

How it works with Reign.

Reign ships a dedicated PeepSo stylesheet, so profiles, the activity stream and PeepSo's own pages are styled to the theme rather than left in its defaults. PeepSo is more self-contained than BuddyPress, rendering much of its UI through its own components, which means the theme's job is mostly typography, colour and container alignment rather than template overrides. That also means PeepSo updates are less likely to break the look than they would with a more template-driven plugin.

When to use it.

Use PeepSo if you are already running it and want Reign's design over it. It is a capable, self-contained community plugin with a different architecture from BuddyPress. For a new build, BuddyNext is ours, installs free and integrates more deeply with the rest of the family, so a member is the same record across the community, courses and forum.

4 steps to ship.

1

Install PeepSo Core (free).

2

Add PeepSo premium add-ons as needed (Groups, Photos, Chat, etc.).

3

Reign auto-styles every PeepSo surface.

4

Can run alongside BuddyPress for hybrid sites.

What to check once it is live.

Use the site as a second, non-admin member: complete a profile, post, comment and send a message. PeepSo renders much of its own UI, so check its pages on a phone specifically. Confirm email notifications arrive, and verify that profile visibility matches what you configured rather than what you assumed.

PeepSo integration questions.

PeepSo vs BuddyPress?

PeepSo has more polished default UI. BuddyPress has the larger plugin ecosystem. Pick based on which 3rd-party plugins you need.

Does Reign support PeepSo properly?

It ships a dedicated PeepSo stylesheet covering profiles and the activity stream. Because PeepSo renders much of its own UI, the theme's role is typography, colour and alignment rather than replacing templates, which makes the integration more stable across PeepSo updates.

PeepSo or BuddyNext?

PeepSo if it is already running and doing what you need. BuddyNext for a new build, because it is ours, installs free, and shares a user record with Learnomy, Jetonomy and the rest, so course progress and forum activity belong to the same member.

Does PeepSo conflict with BuddyPress?

Do not run both. They are alternative community engines occupying the same role, and running them together produces duplicate profiles and confused members. Pick one. If you are choosing fresh, BuddyNext is ours, installs free, and shares a user record with the rest of the family.

Pick a bundled kit.

The Reign theme is $99/year or $249 lifetime and it is the only required purchase. Kits bundle it with the add-ons that style a third-party stack. Or skip the third-party stack: BuddyNext is ours and installs free.
