Push notifications

Push notifications are short alerts delivered to a member's device or browser even when they are not on the site.

Also called: web push, browser notifications

Push reaches people the moment something happens, which makes it strong for replies and live events. It also makes it easy to annoy people.

Look for opt-in prompts that appear at a sensible moment, per-topic controls and a clear way to turn them off.
