Reign vs Discord · 25K/mo searches
Discord started in gaming, now runs creator + crypto + AI communities. Reign on WordPress is the self-hosted equivalent for content-first communities. Discord wins for real-time voice + chat. Reign wins for durable content + SEO + ownership.
Discord is best for synchronous voice + chat + gaming-style communities. Reign is best for durable content + courses + SEO + member discovery. Many large communities run both - Discord for daily chat, Reign for the website + courses + paid membership layer.
Reign wins
Reign owns yourbrand.com (Discord lives at discord.com/your-server). Durable, searchable content + SEO. Rich member profiles. Courses via Learnomy, forums and Q&A via Jetonomy, both free to install. Paid membership via MemberPress. No platform risk (Discord can suspend servers).
Discord wins
Discord has unmatched voice + video chat (Stage channels, screen share, threads). Native mobile + desktop apps. Free for unlimited members. Best-in-class for gaming + creator communities + crypto.

Your community is synchronous (voice + chat) and gaming / crypto / AI flavored. Free for unlimited members is hard to beat. If your community is daily-active and chat-heavy, Discord wins.
You want public-facing content that ranks on Google. You sell courses + need an LMS. You want a paid membership funnel. You worry about platform risk (Discord has banned servers without warning). Examples: course communities, paid newsletters with member portals, B2B professional networks.
Yes - common pattern for large communities. Reign hosts the public site + courses + member directory + paid membership. Discord hosts daily voice + chat. Members log in to Reign for everything findable, jump to Discord for daily chat.
Three reasons people migrate. (1) SEO - your community knowledge is invisible to Google on Discord. (2) Course revenue - Discord cannot collect paid course payments cleanly. (3) Platform risk - Discord has banned servers for vague reasons; on your own WordPress you cannot be banned.
Reign is $99 a year or $249 once, and it is the only thing you have to buy. The community engine, courses, forums, jobs and directories are our own plugins and they cost nothing to install.
